How to Qualify:

This Hamni Bank promotion rewards you for setting up different banking services.  You’ll get…

  • $15 when you get a free checkbook to go with your account
  • $50 when you complete a direct deposit (payroll, pension or government)
  • $5 ($20 max) for each online bill payment you make
  • 1,000 bonus points when you make 5 purchases with your Hamni Bank debit card

You must also complete these steps within two statement cycles (60 days) to get the bonuses.

The Fine Print:

You must open a Regular Personal Checking account with Hamni Bank to get the bonus.

The upside – the debit card pays you 1% cash back!  The downside – you’ll need to meet their minimum daily balance requirements (see below) to avoid service fees.

Fees/Minimums:

Minimum Opening Deposit: $100

Minimum Daily Balance to Avoid Fees: $500 (or $1,000 average daily balance) – otherwise $7/mo + $0.25 per debit

Overdraft/NSF Fees: $22-$27 per item

Account Closure Fees: $20 if closed within 90 days of account opening

My Recommendation:

I wish I lived in California, because the $85 banking promotion, combined with 1% cash-back on debit card purchases makes for sweet deal.

If meeting Hamni Bank’s $500 daily balance (or $1,000 average) requirement is a challenge, you should check out their Free Bonus Checking account.  It pays 2.02% APY on balances up to $24,999, carries no service fees, provides unlimited check writing and refunds up to 10 ATM fees per month.  You won’t get $85 in bonuses with their Free Bonus Checking, but earning 2.02% APY is great!
